Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis, a plant with a rich history as a medicine going back thousands of years. CBD can be derived from both cannabis plants and hemp plants, and  has many proven health benefits. It is non-psychoactive and be used to counter-act some of the adverse effects of Tetrehydrocannabinol (THC).

What is THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is one of at least 113 cannabinoids identified in cannabis. THC is the principle psychoactive constituent of cannabis. THC has many medicinal benefits, including 20X the anti-inflammatory strength of aspirin. For this reason, it is a great pain reliever when ingested or applied topically.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system is one of the human body's largest neurotransmitter networks. It maintains a stable internal environment. Our bodies naturally produce cannabinoids and have cannabinoid receptors, which are introduced by the cannabis plant. It is fascinating that our bodies are hard-wired to receive the benefits of cannabis.

What is the Entourage Effect?

Both CBD and THC have the exact same molecular structure: 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. A slight difference in how the atoms are arranged account for the differing effects in your body.

The 'entourage effect' refers to the way cannabinoids in cannabis interact when they are taken together. CBD and THC have many of the same medicinal benefits, and they provide relief from several of the same conditions. Taken separate they are effective, but taken together you get the benefits of both.

What is MCT?

We use medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) made with organic coconut oil in many of our products. MCT is used in out tinctures as a carrier of CBD/THC to the body's liver to be metabolized into the blood stream and to the cannabinoid receptors. We choose coconut oil because it is a heavy saturated fat that is healthy for the heart, liver and kidneys and is great for your skin as well.

Why does my oil tincture look thick?

Laulau uses MCT coconut oil in our tinctures. It has many health benefits and acts as a reliable carrier for the CBD/THC cannabinoids to the liver to be metabolized and into the blood stream. Because coconut oil is a heavy saturated fat, when it becomes cool - it will solidify. Simply run your tincture bottle under warm water and it will liquify. To avoid this keep your oil at room temperature.

How long till I feel the effects of CBD/THC?

Everybody is different, including tolerance for THC and CBD. When ingested (tincture, edibles, etc.) the effects will take longer for the body to feel because the cannabinoids need to be metabolized by the liver. This can take up to an hour. It is important to start with a low dose and go slow. Follow the directions on our tincture bottles for micro-dosing.

What is Microdosing?

Microdosing refers to the practice of taking tiny portions of cannabis orally, multiple times a day. Start low and go slow, till you figure out your tolerance.

Should I take CBD/THC on an empty stomach?

When ingesting CBD or THC it is important to note that taking it on a full stomach is recommended. It is a misconception that since you feel the effects of alcohol quickly on an empty stomach, the same goes for cannabis. Cannabinoids require fat  to bind to  be carried to the liver to be metabolized into the blood stream. So take CBD and THC with food in your stomach.
